My name is Braydyn Lents, and I am a graduate from IndianaUniversity with a four-year degree in Journalism with a minor inpolitical science. With over four years of experience in writing andcreative communication, I’ve honed the ability to craft compellingnarratives that resonate with diverse audiences. In tandem with myrole in media, I also excel on the courts as a pro pickleball player,where strategic communication is key to both competitive successand team dynamics.As part of the Indiana University Student Athletic Board and IndianaDaily Student, I’ve collaborated closely with fellow members tosupport athletic programs, applying my communication skills to fostera vibrant sports community.   • Worked as a production assistant but was limited in time to spend in thestudio due to having COVID-19 for several months and two positive COVIDtests. Ultimately leaving the company after having COVID twice and beingseverally ill which is why I left a lot of jobs in the winter of 2022.- Worked my way up to getting to a sideline reporting job in August of 2022. – Obtained almost three whole weeks where I published stories and createdcontent.- Introduced fresh ideas and gave perspective on things even if people werenot listening to me.

  • Wrote two comprehensive stories about Black history and life for celebritiesand entertainers.- In my limited time with the company, I learned how to utilize timemanagement, practice active communication and create diction betweenmyself and my colleagues.- Worked up to three-five hours in my limited time with the company per weekat the newspaper company.- Learned how to manage a newspaper and create diction with my colleaguesand coworkers through organized meetings and phone call updates while astory came out.- Learned how to manage my time on an intense deadline.- Was not able to fulfill this opportunity full time due to a severe COVID-19diagnosis that nearly left me hospitalized and left me sick for more than 7months. I left the company on my own terms and there was not other externalfactor that affected my time at the Indiana Daily Student that was caused withmallice. I was severely sick and physically ill during this time period whichwas why I did not advance to this position and left my last position as a newsreporter for the company. It also explains why I left in 2 months.

  • Worked with a collaborative team whose main focus was traditionaljournalism, with an old school principal, that exhibited well, and was able tothrive in.- As part of the internship, I put together more than just articles, more than justwriting stories, and even interviewing subjects for stories, I worked on cleaningthe offices, finding old documents to put into article, worked on Excel files tocalculate total subscriptions to the magazine, buy food and drink products, andserve as a secondary on staff writer at the magazine until leaving in July 2022due to restarting college.- Worked up to 8 hours a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.- Worked on organizing Mac computers and cleaning out the office to add newmerchandise and devices for the company’s usage.- Was involved in a few intense proofing sessions for when the magazinewas beginning to print, as I worked extra time to help staff read articles, sell,and edit stories while changing printer cartages, and using pen and paper tometiculously edit every story from start until the magazine printed, usually on aThursday night, and into the afternoon as it prints.- Distributed magazines to various organizations including the Monroe CountyChamber of Commerce, hotels, small businesses, and restaruants such asThe Social Cantina, Darn Good Soup, and Crazy Horse.

    When we started covering sports for the 2020-2021 athletics season inJanuary, the company started with one camera operator during the season.Throughout the season, however, we were able to grow from having onecamera operator to three camera operators and a board mixer. We were ableto successfully complete a full volleyball and basketball season through themidst of a pandemic. The season had only two games postponed throughoutthe 2020-21 season. Preparation and planning thoroughly became a huge partof preparing for a sportscast. We especially put in a plan B when our teamfaced weather and virus interruptions.

I worked onassignments in the news studio ranging from covering the death of a countyjudge to reporting on the 2020 Election covering the presidential race featuringJoe Biden and Donald Trump. We were able to fix cracks in our delivery andcontinue to present the news on the show the next day. We learned integrity,self-confidence, and teamwork while bringing the news to our Knox Countyaudience.
